Our Counsellor's Statement...
Relationships are central to the human spirit. The aim of counselling is not only to learn new skills, but also for the counsellor to support the relationship through difficulty. Helping couples to gain a deeper understanding and commitment.
It is important to explore how your relationship got to this point. Understanding this and taking responsibility where appropriate is constructive no matter what the outcome of the counselling process is.
Looking at your relationship from the point of what initially attracted each person to the other, for example, as part of the history of the relationship. Looking at patterns of communication and interactions and how you as a couple manage that.
Exploring the effect of change in your lives, like the arrival of children, jobs changes, financial stress etc. Then we can open up conversations about the difficult issues and look at better ways to manage them. Look for strengths in the relationship that can be enhanced.
Importantly gain an understanding for each other and well as yourself, without blame or fault.
